Weekend Do: Uganda Edition
July 8, 2011 § 2 Comments
In case you happen to be in Uganda for the weekend, here are a few weekend do’s you can’t do in the States.
1. Do visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is the only place to see white rhinos in the wild. Everything is run on solar power. I would highly recommend staying overnight in the guest house. The whole sanctuary is so serene and beautiful. After the meal, have a bonfire with friends drinking hot tea or a cold beer.
2. Do show some love to the children at St. Jude’s in Gulu, Uganda by spending an afternoon with them. Displaced children (due to the war), orphans, and children who have cognitive and/or physical abilities call St. Jude’s home. This home is staffed by mothers caring for the children and social workers working hard to connect children to families.
3. Do learn the Luo language and befriend the locals. The Acholi people of Uganda are so friendly and hospitable. One big difference is, as they say, “We (foreigners) are prisoners of time.” They love to sit and talk with you.
