On Site Art – Alejandro Durán

October 2, 2011 § Leave a comment

In response to the plastic pollution on the shores of Sian Ka’an, Mexico’s largest federally protected reserve, Alejandro Duránan has an ongoing project called Washed Up. He creates on site colorful, site-specific sculptures from collected debris in the area. Duránan chooses to display the found items in a way where it seems to fit naturally with how water flows through rocks or how leaves gather in between holes.

Since the beginning of this project in February 2010, he has identified debris from 42 nations and 6 continents on the shores of Mexico. Duránan has created not just art, but a hope to truly reflect on the relationship of consumption and waste.
